Broke car

Today was a crazy day.  Though I am mostly done with training, I still have a few quizzes and demos to perform.  At the end of next week will be the final test when I am completely done.  So I got to work and as I’m entering the office at 7:28 am, I see Leif is calling me.  Why is Leif calling me?

He had dropped off the kids at daycare and went out to the parking lot and couldn’t start the car.  Couldn’t even get the key in the ignition block.  I had my quizzes to do, and he said that was fine, he’d walk home and I’d call when I was done.

Short story–it had to be towed to the mechanic.  Leif was just so frustrated, but strangely I was not.  I understand, having a car break down seems as embarrassing as falling–you don’t want people to witness you.  But we were fortunate the ways things went.  It was a beautiful day–so he didn’t have to stay outside in the rain or the cold.  It broke down in town, not at his work 30 minutes away.  Daycare is within walking distance of our house, so he could wait at home until I could come get him.  He could easily take the day off of work–in fact they were probably glad he did, due to the lack of work to do.  My work is a short way away, so I didn’t have a lot of time to make up.  And we have good mechanics–they will fix it to the best of their ability at a fair price.  All in all, it was the best way for a car to break down.  So, we’ll see what they say tomorrow.
